TUTORIAL NO. 01: Toning down a bright icon/the grunge look
- You'll need to use your own grungy brushes
- If you try these tutorials out let me see the results!
(it'd be marvelous to know that this post isn't in vain)
TUTORIAL NO. 1: Toning down a bright icon/the grunge look
[001] Take a bright-ass icon like so,
and only use the SHARPEN filter once.

[002] Create a new layer and fill it in with a muted colour. For this icon I
used a pink hue (#D5C9CB) with an opacity of 86%. Be sure to set it to
COLOUR. This will help to counter act the bright yellow tone. (Please Note:
#D5C9CB will not look right with all colours. Pick a colour that suits what
you're working with.

[003] MULTIPLY a gradient.

[004] Add text (optional) and brush work accordingly.

[005] Flatten image and SHARPEN again (this is obviously an optional step).
